Just a little Zouk Lambada and seasoned with Salsa

What a great weekend!

It started by racing over to Palmerston North to get to that next Zouk Lambada class of Raines.  SUCCESS AT LAST!!  I finally got it lol.  I would have forgotten by the next class but I got it!.  I think I can do a turn now lol.  One more class to go in this block and then its up to me to practice.  Thanks Raine

After a quick change it was off to Welly for a blast at the Salsa Dromes’ new venue….Not Bad!  Great floor, was a lovely mix of people there.  Mr Hamish Lobb was the stand in DJ for much of the night.  Plenty of Cuban grovers there for those that love Cuban so you wouldn’t miss out.  I must say I had some fab dances and really enjoyed it.    Then off to fill ourselves with yet another late night meal at the Taiwanese restaurant “Cha”

Thanks to Debra, Hamish and Raine that kindly accommodated me this weekend.  All made for feel good weekend.

I here there is a party In Wanganui on the 14th of this month and also in Palmy the same night.

Who needs to go to a bar with a bunch of drunk people when you can meet great people and dance as much as you like at a Salsa Party.

A little Promo for “Our Raine”

Well it’s been a while.  : )

I’ve been busy, still dancing but busy.  I’d like to put it out there that our dear Raine (our local pro dancing instructor) is working to raise money to further develop her dance teaching skills.  Shes off to Aussie soon and is currently running classes on a friday night teaching Zouk Lambada for this purpose.  I’ve done two of these classes already and they are pretty full on.  I’m learning something here and it’s been a great challenge.

To finally be doing something on the Zouk scene feels good.  I’ve participated in a few classes in Aussie and here but it’s just never stuck.  I don’t know if any of you other dancers out there are able to relate but it’s frustrating and sometimes you just Gotta get stuck in.

One of the things I love about Street Latin dancing is that you just keep meeting wonderful people.  Particularly new people to the dance scene who are working their way through the classes. 

In saying that I am reminded of the recent experience I had in the new Zouk Lambada classes.  I was one of many and some of the folks were new to dance in general.  One of the interesting things about this new class is that regardless of your dance experience, when you start a new dance, you start as a beginner and everyone becomes equal.  The new folks get a chance to be on an even playing field with the more experienced dancers.  It’s such a contrast to the normal daunting social scene of the new person on the floor amongst the twisting and spinning of the more experienced.

SO I SAY a big thankyou to the new folks who are patient enough to go through the classes with me as I learn something new.

Friday nights it’s all happening.  Fundraising for Raine and new dance skills for us.

Back to Normality

The new year is upon us and it doesn’t take long before withdrawal from dance sets in over the break (all of a couple of weeks without a party). 

I’ve seen it before you know.  It can become a psychosis…. he sits in the corner, looking down, left leg twitching (in anticipation of the ONE) as hes sure he can hear a faint bit of Salsa music in the distance, only to realise its all in head.  Its been what seems like ages since he spun a woman and his world is just not the same…… Thank God… word of another party….

The world is normal again.

Lets just start the year by wishing everyone a happy new year with many opportunities to learn that new move.

Don’t hesistate to ask if you need a hand.  Awsome to see the new people joining the scene in Wanganui.

You know you’re Addicted to Dance When…..

You know your addicted to dance when….

• You go out to buy sneekers and come back with yet another pair of shoes to dance in.
• You can’t sleep because your still thinking about dance moves.
• Your off to physio again after putting you back out on yet another body wave.
• Your starting to get excited the morning of the evening your going out to dance.
• Everyone wants to dance and you can’t say no to anyone.
• Your wife starts to think your doing one of those fancy dance marathons where you start in New Zealand and finish in cuba.
• Your always out of discretionary income.
• You heard there was a party in Invercargil and you live in Auckland and still contemplate going for one night.
• You wake up with turn patterns running trough your head and you can’t get up till you figure out which hand your supposed to lead with to get the girl into that position in the first place.  So you miss breakfast.
• You don’t have to go to the toilet depiste drinking 3 litres of water per hour.
• You begin to feel like your in a polygmous relationship with multiple partners.

When It’s Not OK to Dance

Believe it or not there are times when it’s at least advisable not to dance:

When your standing in the Acc office claiming on an old hip injury you got back in 1983

When your standing in the bath without a bath mat…Shower is OK

When your being yelled at for dancing too much and you come home smelling of perfume and covered in glitter based make up.

When your partner’s about to give birth and she just wants to hold your hand.  Hopping is OK!

When you’ve turned your partner down for sex because you’ve got a headache.  Definately a NO NO!

When you’ve got two broken legs.

When your being chased by the mob.

When your heart rate exceeds 200 hundred beats per minute.

When you’ve got concussion…… from dancing.

When you love the women you spin

How often do you think about what you do for the people that you dance with.  Often dancing becomes an important part of peoples lives and not everyone has someone to dance with.  It does something for them that other activities don’t.   

It still makes me sad when I hear a lady say how much they would love to share it with their partner but can’t,  for one reason or another,  he’s just not into dancing.   Suddenly dancing  feels like a gift to that person and for a moment your held in a magical light. 

When your doing something special for yourself and it ends up being a gift to someone else…You are loving.

This is my new Blog site!    I thought it might be fun to try something like this now that I know a little bit about this internet stuff.    Freaky!!!

Bragging is all good on this site.   My first brag is about creating this site ALL BY MY SELF he he  after learning how to build a full website homefitnessheros.com which has been a fun and scary experience.

MY BEGINNING …..

A number of years ago I was going through a pretty rough time.   As the existentialists would say I was alive in body but dying in spirit.   It dawned on me that I needed to do something creative with my body to bring life back into my own being.    I’d always loved to dance but I couldn’t really do anything more than the high school shuffle. 

I started a bit of ballroom.  It was the best thing I ever did.  Suddenly I met all these wonderful people.
